National Certification in Durable Medical Equipment

The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC)

Recently, Dawn Cook and Leslie Watson of Dawn Cook Consulting LLC have both successfully completed a rigorous process to earn certification as Durable Medical Equipment Specialists (CDME) from the Board for Certification/Accreditation (BOC).

CDME certification is awarded when an individual successfully completes required training and practical experience under supervision, passes a comprehensive examination, and meets nationally-accepted standards of practice. CDMEs demonstrate broad knowledge of the DME industry, helping with basic repairs, troubleshooting, and home inspections for DME products like oxygen, transfer systems, enteral supplies, and wound care.

“We’re honored and proud to have earned our CDME certifications,” says Cook. “We have gained education in something that will benefit our clients, as well as our clients’ clients in the long run. It’s always reassuring to learn such valuable information and to be able to apply that in medical-legal work, especially in life care planning.”

Dawn Cook, an experienced RN for over 30 years, now focuses her work as an Expert Nurse Life Care Planner and Medical Billing Specialist for clients nationwide. She started her life care planning company in 2011 and continues to grow her business based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Leslie Watson, based out of Orlando, Florida, has been a key contributor to Dawn’s business from the beginning as the Lead Medical Cost Researcher. Leslie holds a Master’s degree and certification in Rehabilitation Counseling, and has been in the medical-legal field for nearly 35 years.

“The goal of the CDME is to acknowledge trained professionals in the industry,” notes Claudia Zacharias, President & CEO of BOC, located in Owings Mills, Maryland. “With the American population spanning five generations, we are seeing people in every age group experience an increased need for DME products and quality care. It is a genuine pleasure to welcome Dawn and Leslie as BOC CDMEs.”
