Life Care Planning and Math

Dawn Cook was recently published in the Fall 2020 issue of the Journal of Nurse Life Care Planning (AANCLP) with her article titled “It’s All About the Numbers”. The AANCLP has been providing peer-reviewed excellence in life care planning since 2006.

This article discusses the importance of correct calculations in a life care plan. It is imperative that calculations be done precisely to include unit costs, recommended frequencies, life expectancy, one-time or lifetime costs, and overall categorical totals. The article also details the importance of determining a patient’s life expectancy and how that will factor into calculating lifetime totals, when applicable.  Commons errors and tips for improvements are also touched on, along with funding the full purchase price of an item, using averages or ranges and overlapping time periods.
